Laughing jackasses

Since we're on the subject of birds, here's a very Australian bird: the kookaburra. The first time I heard a kookaburra, I thought it sounded like a laughing chimpanzee! If you want, you can hear it for yourself at this website.

Thanks to my little brother for the photo!

Awesome link! I about jumped out of the window when the sound went on. How does one sleep if they are nearby? And I agree with ROB, you do have the coolest animals there!

Rob and Eric> You are right, there really are some amazing animals in Australia. And yes, if kookaburras are nesting in a tree near you, they make for a really effective wake-up call! :)

Sophie...in answer to your question on my blog...no, in this case I didn't need to do any touch-up. Just lucky I guess.

FINALLY! I know what a Kookaburra looks like. I didn't know they existed. We used to sing this in grade school, like when I was 8 years old. It went like this..."kookaburra sits in the old gum tree eatin' all the gumballs he can see...laugh, kookaburra, laugh, kookaburra, please save some for me." I remember that my sister and I thought gumballs grew on trees in Australia and we so wish we could of grown one.

They really laugh, huh? I thought this was a made up bird. It's pretty exciting to see this.

Like a laughing chimpanzee ? Ah, ah ! I read a few days ago in a review we have earned the capacity to laugh from the primate monkeys.
And I think, birds laugh really. for having little birds in my house I can say : little birds can
smile. One see it, when we are knowing them well.

I do miss listening to Kookaburra early in the morning... and when they would come down to the front verandah and eat the mince we put out for it... from an expat...
